چکیده

OBJECTIVE To determine the profile of patients with humeral diaphyseal fractures in a tertiary hospital. METHODS We conducted a survey from January 2010 to July 2012, including data from patients classified under humeral diaphyseal fracture (S42.3) according to the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-10). The variables analyzed were: age, gender, presence of radial nerve injury, causal agent and the type of treatment carried out. RESULTS The main causes of trauma were car accidents. The radial nerve lesion was present in some cases and was caused by the same trauma that caused the fracture or iatrogenic injury. Most of these fractures occurred in the middle third of humeral diaphysis and was treated conservatively. CONCLUSION The profile of patients with fracture of humeral shaft, in this specific sample, was composed mainly of adult men involved in traffic accidents; the associated radial nerve lesion was present in most of these fractures and its cause was strongly related to the trauma mechanism. Level of Evidence II, Retrospective Study.

Acute Combined Median and Radial Nerve Palsies after Distal Humeral Shaft Fracture

We report a case of a 29-year-old man who presented with a distal humeral shaft fracture sustained by blunt trauma. Physicalexamination and nerve conduction study were consistent with injury to the median and radial nerves proximal to theelbow. The patient underwent open reduction and internal fixation of the humeral shaft fracture with neurolysis of the medianand radial nerves. Repeat electrom...

Iatrogenic Radial Nerve Palsy following Closed Reduction of a Simple Diaphyseal Humeral Fracture: Beware the Perfect X-Ray

Radial nerve injury is a recognised complication associated with humeral shaft fracture. A case of iatrogenic radial nerve injury is presented following fracture reduction. The relevant anatomy, challenges in management of humeral fractures with associated radial nerve injury, and the importance of detailed clinical assessment and documentation are discussed.

Case-Match Controlled Comparison of Minimally Invasive Plate Osteosynthesis and Intramedullary Nailing for the Stabilization of Humeral Shaft Fractures.

OBJECTIVES To compare the risk of major complications after either minimally invasive plate osteosynthesis (MIPO) or intramedullary nailing (IMN) of humeral shaft fractures. DESIGN Retrospective, case-match controlled study. SETTING A major metropolitan tertiary referral trauma center in Australia. PATIENTS Thirty patients with fractures of the humeral shaft. INTERVENTION Either MIPO or...

Open surgical revision of radial nerve after humeral fracture in polytrauma.

AIM OF THE STUDY The injury of the radial nerve is not uncommon in humeral shaft fractures. These lesions may be of different types and levels and their treatment changes depending on traumatic characteristic. The authors present a case report of a patient affected by a closed shaft humeral fracture, consequence of an high energy trauma, associated with motor palsy of the radial nerve in which ...

Management of Radial Nerve Palsy Associated with Humeral Shaft Fractures by Closed Interlocking Intrameduallary Nail

Radial nerve palsy, either axonotmesis or neurapraxia, associated with fractures of the shaft humerus occurred in about 10 percent of the patients with humeral shaft fractures [1,2,3]. Its close relation to the humerus, especially fractures of the middle and the distal thirds of the humerus makes the radial nerve vulnerable to such injuries [4,5,6]. There are many debate about the management of...
